You bet there is! There are apps for just about everything! And I'll admit…I love (too) many of them! Here are some of my favorite free apps, and in a minute, I want you to tell me YOURS!
This is just what it says it is…a game where you draw things.
These are some pics of a current game between Robin and me.

| This is the pic Robin drew for me, and that I guessed correctly! ; ) |

| These are the choices I had to choose from to draw for Robin. Guess what I chose.... |
![]() |
| This is the screen you see once you make your choice. And, just as it says, you tap to draw! |

| Can you guess it? Huh? Can you?!!! ; ) The more coins you win, the more colors you get too. |
#1 Education app in the U.S. when launched
Project Noah is all about identifying and sharing pictures of plant and animal life. It's just flat COOL! And so educational! Which makes you feel better about playing it, of course.
I use this all the time for brainstorming or making notes for my books. I'll actually talk a scene through and record dialogue, try different twists and turns, then I'll label it and reference back to it when I'm writing that scene. It's a handy app for remembering "to dos" as well!
Here are some other free favorites you might want to check out:
RunPee.com -- this app tells you the best time to run and pee during a movie without missing anything important. It also tells you if there is anything "extra" after the credits.
Flipboard -- this app creates a personalized magazine of everything being shared with you via Facebook newsfeed, tweets, photos, videos and more.
Houzz -- this app gives interior design ideas (so fun!)
i-nigma QR Code Reader -- this app enables your phone to read barcodes... like this one:

| Once you download the i-nigma QR Code Reader, try it out on this code! |
So tell me…what are some of your favorite FREE apps?
Tammy
![]() |
| Okay, this isn't an app. It's Kurt asking Jack if he wanted to go for a walk last night. : ) Let's just say…Jack WANTED to go! |
And lastly…
Beginning TODAY, June 26th, through Saturday, June 30th, Robin's WWII set novel, THE VICTORY CLUB, will be free on Amazon for the Kindle. Don't miss out and please tell your friends. (Sorry. This offer doesn't extend to the Nook.)

Erik and I still have "dumb phones" for ourselves, but Erik recently received a smartphone from his work. That's been fun, and I've downloaded a few app games to play. The biggest thing is all the apps we download have to be free. And since it's his work phone, I can't play "Draw Something" with anyone :-( I will have to check out Houzz...it IS summer and I have free time on my hands, so interior decorating is high on my list :-P
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of Kurt and Jack...I can almost see Jack's tail wagging a mile a minute as he looks up at Kurt!!
Tammy, posts about apps can be dangerous. But I had every one of them you listed. My current highest run on Draw Something is 127. I've been playing long enough now to have about 3 dozen colors. Fun when I need a break. But I don't usually try to draw on my iPhone. Too small. So I wait and play on the iPad with its bigger screen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing about The Victory Club being free. I only found out late yesterday, and the free period will be over before my next post.
Yes, Catherine, check out Houzz. A reader buddy told me about it and it's really fun! Some great ideas that you can take and then make your own.
ReplyDeleteRobin, you're way ahead of me on playing Draw Something, woman. I just started and don't have any extra colors. But love it!! And you're so welcome on TVC. Couldn't not mention it! ; ) GREAT book!!
I tried checking out Houzz...it looks like it's only on the iPhone/iPad? Oh well...maybe we can find something similar on the android :-)
ReplyDeleteFun new apps I'm going to have to check out!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites for travel is Rest Area Finder. It tells you how far it is to the next rest area and shows which side(s) of the Interstate it's on. Balloons in color have rest rooms. B&W balloons mean it's just a picnic area (no facilities).
Good grief! You gals and your technology are way beyond me. If I can get a text out there, I feel like I've accomplished something. (Ahem, I had to have personal help learning to do that last year, if you recall.)
ReplyDeleteLOL, love that one, Myra. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteAnd um… yes, Judy, I sort of recall that. ; )
All these available apps are amazing! (okay--I really wasn't trying to see how many "a" words I could use in one sentence, LOL). Seriously, I had NO idea about most of these--thanks for the info. Tammy. ~ And Judy--don't feel bad--I don't do any apps either, and am thrilled I can send texts to my kiddos! ~ Hope lots of folks take advantage of that offer on Robin's book--LOVED reading The Victory Club several years ago. Thanks for sharing the cute photo of your sons (the one with fur and the one without). *smile* Hugs, Patti Jo
ReplyDeletep.s. On a personal note...my beloved oldest kitty Tubby (16 years old) passed away early this morning. Such a sweet, gentle kitty who wouldn't leave my side for 6 weeks after my spinal surgeries 2 years ago. He will be missed....
Patti Jo, my sympathies on Tubby's passing. I'm so sorry... We love our pets, don't we? They become so much a part of us.
ReplyDeleteWish I could share my dark chocolate covered espresso beans with you. I would if I could. Not with Judy or Robin, of course. But with you... ; )
Oh, Patti Jo, I'm so sorry to hear you lost your kitty Tubby. Losing our furry kids is tough. {{hugs}} from Boise.
ReplyDeletePatti Jo, as I said on Facebook, you're in my prayers. Erik and I are heading toward Atlanta in August...maybe we should swing by for some coffee/hot chocolate while we're there :-) I don't have any dark chocolate covered espresso beans like Tammy does, though :-(
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry PJ for the loss of your cat Tubby. Be comforted in knowing that you gave him the very best life any cat could dream of...good food, comfy place to lounge and most of all so much love I am sure. Sending you cyber hugs.
ReplyDeleteTammy I wouldn't know what to do with an App if it jump up and smacked me in the face! Don't tell anyone but I just started texting last year when my son and his family came for Thanksgiving and said enough is enough I'm taking you to get a REAL phone! LOL! And the very thing, "texting" that I thought I didn't have time for, has been such a joy in keeping up with loved ones and others. Apps sound like fun though, my 11 year old grandaughter, just smiles at me and says "Meeeee Maaaaw!" when she hears me say I don't know about these things.
What I DO know about though is good music and Tammy I know that you like and listen to instrumental music as you write. Well have I got the music for you! It's the Original movie soundtrack from "Message in a Bottle" I heard a cut from it on a blog and knew I had to get it. Could only find it on Amazon. Ordered it and Oh..My Goodness! For lack of a better word, the music is "hauntingly beautiful". I think that you will like it. The composer is Gabriel Yared and he has written numerous movie music scores, very gifted. If you decide to download or purchase the cd, make sure to get "the Original movie score, because there are other cd's that have "music FROM or Inspired by the Message in a Bottle" And it is not the same. Well have a nice evening everyone!
PostScript ! HA Ha! I was about to get upset when I read that Robin's book, "The Victory Club" would not be available for the Nook...then the Lord gave me a "nudge" to look on one of my book shelves and there it was! "The Victory Club" lookin' all puuuurty! I had read it a few year ago and loved it! So! nanny nanny boo boo I don't need it on my Nook! LOL!
ReplyDeleteBless you for that music recommendation, Veronica! Will go look it up on Amazon. And LOL at your second comment "about to get upset." Oh that made me smile. You're a jewel, lady! Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteMy boy has had my laptop at orientation all day and got home just as I took my girl to voice lessons. FINALLY, I get a turn! LOL
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Draw Something! And Hanging with Friends and Scramble. And of course Words with Friends. I may have to check out some of these you mentioned.
Just a quick note to say THANK YOU to my precious friends on here---the sweet comments and prayers mean sooo much to me. Tubby was truly a "member of our family" and will be missed, but I'm so thankful the Lord created these furry creatures to add extra joy to our lives while they're here. Thanks again for your kindness--I love my Writes of Passage friends. Love, PJ
ReplyDeleteI wish I *had* something to use all those neat apps with! LOL The one for the movies would be helpful, for sure! LOL And the recording one would most definetly come in handy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, with characteristic humor. ;) I'll keep this post in mind if/ever I get a smart phone!
Linda, I haven't heard of Hanging with Friends. Will check that out. Thanks!
ReplyDeletePatti Jo, hugging you, lady!
And Meghan, sorry these won't work on your phone, gal. Really, they're not that fun after all. Actually, they're boring and, when all is said and done, I don't really like apps that much (does that sound convincing??) : } Hugs to you, friend!
