I think I told you last week that my youngest daughter turned 20. A few days later, my soul sister Kathy also celebrated a birthday. I usually fly to Nevada to see Kathy on or near her birthday, but this year I took all three of my daughters for a "group birthday" present (even though Kristian and Kaitlyn's birthdays are months away).
When we arrived at the airport, we discovered that Kathy had arranged for a stretch limousine to drive us to the Excaliber (hotel). My girls were tickled, and--admittedly--so was I. I'd never ridden in a limo, either! The first picture shows the girls sitting side-by-side across from the "bar" which contained icy-cold water bottles. The second picture cracks me up--they're each texting a friend to say, "Guess what I'm doing right now!"
The highlight of our trip was seeing "The Phantom of the Opera." For one thing, it was fun to see my girls all dressed up. Aren't they all so pretty? (Yes, I'm a biased mom!) But our theatre seats were FRONT ROW CENTER. We couldn't have snagged a better location. We felt as though we were a part of the production, we were so close to the action. And it was phenomenal--the acting, the singing, the elaborate costuming and sets. Everything flowed seemingly without effort (and I know what kind of effort that takes). We were mesmerized. It was amazing...
The girls flew home Sunday, but I stayed a couple of extra days to have some time with Kathy. I'm battling an infection (cellulitis) so we didn't do our usual "running around," choosing instead to relax and chat. But we did see the Titanic exhibition. I wish I had pictures, but they wouldn't allow any photography at all. Let me say, though, that if you ever have the chance to see this exhibit, do it. It isn't just your everyday exhibit--you experience the emotions of the passengers. Very well worth the time.
Here's a pic of Kathy and me before leaving for "Phantom." I've had the privilege of friendship with Kathy since 1983 when she hired me as her secretary. We've lived a lot of life over the years, and most of the time we've been states apart, yet our friendship has endured. I see her as one of my God-gifts. I didn't get a sister through the traditional means, but I've had Kathy, and she's as close to me as a birth sister could be.
So that was our birthday celebration for Kamryn, Kathy, Kristian, and Kaitlyn. I'd like to offer the chance for you to win a birthday gift. Kamryn just turned 20, but I'm not telling Kathy's age. When you leave a comment, include your guess at Kathy's age. I'll put all the guessers into a drawing for my newest book, Fields of Grace, as soon as I have copies in hand. Good luck!
God bless you muchly as you journey with Him! ~Kim
My parents took my sisters to the Phantom when it was in Toronto and while I WAS IN COLLEGE! Still, to this day, I'm so disappointed that I didn't get to see it!! :-(
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't even do this, because I always get in trouble when guessing someone's age. I'm always waaay off - in the older range. :-|
But, I'll give it a go... I'm going to say that Kathy was 38 when she hired you in 1983...so, that would now make her 64.
Oy, I'm cringing as I hit publish. What a mean way to enter a drawing! lol! :-D
Regardless of her age, she looks beautiful :-)
I'm with Stephanie. This is a really scary way to try to win a book. I'm horrible at guessing ages. I'm going to guess fifty-ssss, um, fifty-errrr, um, okay, how about fifty-nine. Shame on you, Kim. Couldn't think of a harder way to let us win a book, eh? Don't you dare try to guess my age. LOL. Love ya'lls smiles.
ReplyDeleteLOL! You don't have to guess right to be in the drawing. You just have to guess. *grin*
ReplyDeleteOh, sure. NOW you tell me. WHEW! LOL. Hugs, Kim.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I apologize in advance to Kathy if I'm horribly amiss in my estimation of her age. I'm calculating by numbers only. If she was 31 and established enough to hire a secretary in her job in 1983 and 26 years have passed since then, that would make Kathy 57 years young. I agree that she looks great -- no matter her actual age.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful trip you all had!! Thanks for sharing these pics with us - - you all look so pretty dressed up for the play (and yes, your girls are LOVELY! - I'm sure you are PROUD of them!). How special you have Kathy in your life...there's nothing like a caring sister in our lives (whether it's biological or otherwise). ~ You don't need to enter me in the drawing...my copy of FIELDS OF GRACE arrived YESTERDAY from Amazon and I am LOVING IT !!! :)
ReplyDeleteHugs, Patti Jo
I also have no 'birth sister' but my close friends are just as much family as they could be. Isn't it wonderful! We've been together since primary school--there isn't much we haven't shared.
ReplyDeleteYour group birthday celebration sounds like a blast.
I pray your cellulitis 'ups and leaves' very soon.
I would put her in her late 40s--45 to 50 years of age. She surely doesn't look much older than that. Nor do you.

Sounds like y'all had a wonderful time! I'm not very good at guessing ages, but I would love the chance to win a book. Therefore I will give this a try. She looks great, and I really don't know what to say, but I'll take a stab and say 62.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your joys with us. I would guess that Kathy would be around 61, but everyone is right, she looks great!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing these photos of you, your girls, and your friend Kathy. You all looked lovely! What a great trip.
ReplyDeleteI am praying you feel better soon.
Ooo, Kim, you're living dangerously, asking us to guess your sweet friend's age! She's as beautiful as you, but I believe older. And since I think I know how old you are (just two years older than me) I'm going to guess she's 55.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your girls are lovely young women!! But that's not a surprise considering who their Mama is. :)
